Building on the legacy of an Indigenous chief killed in WW II

Edward Clutesi’s gravestone in the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery bears his name and rank when he was killed in the Second World War. It doesn't show that the 26-year-old was Indigenous, a residential school survivor, heir to one of his nation's hereditary chieftainships — and had a brilliant mind.
