When I was a teenager, the last thing on my mind was retirement. If someone had told me to open an investment account for my future, I probably would have laughed and spent my paycheck at the mall instead. Looking back, I wish someone had pulled me aside and explained the power of starting early. Even starting a basic savings account would have been more helpful than spending my money on a stack of Gap sweaters with matching socks.
