General Mills is issuing a major recall for some of its Pillsbury roll products. At present, at least 736,000 Pillsbury bread rolls have been pulled from shelves due to possible glass contamination.
On July 13, the recall was classified as Class II, meaning that the product could cause “temporary or medically reversible” health consequences. The brand hasn’t shared how the error could’ve occurred.“Food safety is our top priority at General Mills,” a General Mills spokesperson told Fast Company in an email. The company continued, noting that the products are marketed toward businesses and are not likely to be found in stores. “Out of an abundance of caution, in mid-June, we issued a voluntary recall of two frozen dough products baked onsite and sold exclusively at Walmart in-store bakeries in the United States,” it said.The company added, “This voluntary recall is limited in scope, highly contained and all potential impacted product has been removed.”Two separate products are included in the recall, including 3,080 cases of Pillsbury “Hard Roll Dough” products with 180 units per case. Those products have “Better if Used by” dates of Oct. 12, 2026, and Oct. 13, 2026. The lot numbers are 11JUN6JL and 12JUN6JL.The recall also includes 1,260 cases of Pillsbury “Kaiser Roll Dough” products with 144 units per case. Those products have a “Better if Used by” date of Oct. 13, 2026. The lot numbers 12JUN6JL.The affected products have been distributed in 19 states, including Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.General Mills is not the first company to issue a voluntary recall over possible glass contamination lately. In recent months, frozen food manufacturer Ajinomoto Foods North America recalled three million pounds of frozen products after customers reported finding glass in their rice. Most of the products were sold at Trader Joe’s. The recall was later multiplied times 10 with 33 million of the frozen food products being recalled.
