I fell in love with singing when I was 11, singing "Blue Christmas" in front of my fifth-grade music class. I'd been so nervous. What if I forgot the words, or my voice cracked? (Plus, what preteen doesn't crave the approval of their peers?) To my shock, the reactions on everyone's faces were positive. As a middle-of-the-road student and athlete, this came as a surprise. I'd never felt like a "star" before, or exceptional at anything. At that moment, I knew I wanted to be a singer.
